The Asian
Seminary of Christian Ministries began with a vision to train
men and women for the ministry. With meager resources of books,
faculty, and students, it was founded in 1973 as the Church
of God Bible Academy (COGBA) in Pasay City.
Soon,
the three-year diploma courses were elevated into Bachelors
programs and the school was renamed the Asian School of Christian
Ministries under the directorship of Rev. Gerald Halloway.
In
1986, ASCM moved to its present location in Salcedo Village,
Makati, positioning itself in the midst of an urban community
setting and the heart of a cosmopolitan city.
The school
continued to progress under the presidency of Dr. Hubert P.
Black, who initiated the Master's Degree Program in 1990.
During his term, the school was renamed The Asian Seminary
of Christian Ministries. Under the leadership of Dr. Miguel
Alvarez, the External Studies Department was launched and
mission training programs for China and the Middle East also
began.
In April
2001, Dr. Chuck Quinley, original Director of Graduate Studies,
was appointed president of the seminary. During his term,
he sharpened the focus of instruction toward skill building
in the areas of spirituality, leadership, and communication.
The Master of Arts in Christian Leadership was revised according
to this new emphasis, helping to boost enrollment to 300 students.
As the
seminary approaches its 35th year, it has continued to expand
through the addition of new programs like the Certificate
for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Certificate
Program for Church Music and Leadership, and the Basic Radio
and Broadcast Production Course.
It has
also been blessed with the addition of a new media training
center (for mass media, audio, and video production), a computer
room with LCD monitors, and the addition of 12,000 new volumes
of books purchased abroad.
In spite
of these changes and the added challenge of missions in the
new millennium, the Asian Seminary still continues to uphold
its vision with the following guidelines: Resource
Environment Academy
Community Hub
(REACH).
